Amid increasing pressure on academic freedom worldwide, the Berlin Brandenburg Academic Freedom Week (BBAFW) 2026 focuses on the themes of safeguarding and reconstruction. The programme examines the complex dynamics shaping the trajectories of at-risk academics, students and artists, while discussing effective strategies for protecting academic freedom both regionally and internationally.
The BBAFW is organised by Scholars at Risk Berlin-Brandenburg and the Berlin University Alliance, together with a broad network of European and international scientific and cultural partners, including Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Charité, Universität der Künste Berlin and many others.
