Once a year, the HU searches for a professor from its own ranks who has an international reputation, relevance of research, acquisition of third-party funding, outstanding publication activity and commitment in the university’s self-administration or other committees. The Caroline von Humboldt Professorship is endowed with 80,000 euros and is intended not only to increase the visibility and reputation of the person awarded the professorship, but also to raise awareness of the issue of gender and research promotion.

Additionally an outstanding postdoctoral researcher from Germany or abroad is awarded the opportunity to realise a research project at the HU.
The Caroline von Humboldt Prize is endowed with 15,000 euros.

Both awards are part of the Caroline von Humboldt Programme, which was developed as a strategic equal opportunities concept developed by the Office of the Central Women’s Representative of Humboldt University.

At this year’s public ceremony neuroscientist and HU professor Susanne Schreiber will be awarded with the Caroline von Humboldt Professorship 2024. The Lithuanian ethnologist Dr. Kristina Jonutyté will receive the Caroline von Humboldt Prize 2023.
