Researchers in the health and life sciences strive to provide high-quality evidence for all members of society. Yet, research subjects are commonly drawn from so-called WEIRD samples (i.e., populations that are White, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic), and sample heterogeneity is often ignored during data analysis. As a result, we are faced with a considerable gender and diversity data gap—that is, a systematic lack of data for traditionally underrepresented groups.

The Spring School comes from the effort to better understand heterogeneity by systematically closing the data gaps in the research with better theory, methods, and data analytic approaches.
