The #metoo debate, which has transformed the world of media, art and culture since its start in 2017, has also raised awareness about the taboo issues of sexualised discrimination and violence at institutions of higher education in Germany. In recent years, there have been a number of notable steps taken towards public acknowledgement of the problem and preventative measures.

The conference “MeToo in Science” will address this complex situation with two events, with the goal of intensifying the discussion about the structural and legal circumstances and starting an exchange about innovative prevention measures. It’s aimed at academic organisations, those in university leadership positions, ministries, equal opportunities officers, those working in counselling/guidance roles (including students and others in the process of gaining qualifications), ombudspeople, academic researchers, academic managers, staff councils/unions and anyone else with an interest in the topic.

The first part of the event taking place on 17 June 2021 will take a close look at the legal aspect of the issue. The second part will take place on 1 July 2021 and focusses on the options for appropriate and innovative prevention.
