The online seminar is aimed at academics in the career phase between doctorate and lifetime professorship and provides them with an overview of the legal basis and pitfalls for reconciling career and family when working in academia.
In addition to an overview of the basics of maternity protection and parental leave, it is primarily dedicated to the special features that exist in science with regard to the compatibility of career and family. It addresses the effects of family-related leave and part-time work on fixed-term contracts in accordance with the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG) and on temporary civil servant contracts.
Extension options and entitlements as well as their limits are explained. Other topics include family-related part-time work and how to deal with family-related issues in job interviews and applications for professorships, as well as an explanation of other family-related protective regulations.
