Guide on Gender-Sensitive Language in Dissertation
With the support of OpenRewi, a team of 15 authors has developed this guide to gender- and discrimination-sensitive language.
The guide deals with the theoretical background and possible applications. It is primarily intended to support the preparation of dissertations. It therefore contains chapters on the linguistic foundations, further dimensions of anti-discrimination language as well as arguments for gender- and discrimination-sensitive language and the methods of gender-sensitive language.
The guide also provides practical tips, such as on communicating with mentors and advisors or sensitive quoting. It provides initial answers to the question of whether the spelling used can be explained and, if so, how. Nevertheless, the guide can also be used beyond the specific qualification work. A glossary of living terms rounds off the guide by showing alternatives to discriminatory terms and hopefully encouraging further thought.
The guide can be accessed here.
