QueerNetwork Charité
Type of resource
Network
Target group
Queer people at the Charité
As a bottom-up initiative by queer people for queer people, the Charité QueerNetwork brings together queer issues and interests at the Charité and represents them in clinics, research, teaching, and administration. The Network campaigns against discrimination and for greater visibility, mutual understanding, and appreciation. They also offer a safe space for sharing experiences and empowerment.
In 2018, the initiators of the network included the student queer department, the equal opportunities officers of the student body initiative, and the women’s and equal opportunities officers of the Charité. In the same year, the Charité joined the Alliance against Homophobia (Bündnis gegen Hompophobie). In the meantime, more than 340 colleagues from all professions and students have joined the network. In addition, the QueerNetwork is in close contact with other initiatives that promote diversity at Charité through the Charité Diversity Network,.

The Network is active for example through
- Regulars’ tables and other “get together” activities
- Newsletter
- Activities and project work
- Events and discussion panels
- Participation in international days of action on queer issues, such as the International Day against Queerphobia (IDAHOBITA*)
- Participation in Pride events such as the lesbian and gay city festival, Dyke March or CSD
Dates and locations for their meetings as well as further information about the QueerNetwork Charité will be announced via their email distribution list.
In addition, there is the QueerNetwork-internal Queering Committee. The Queering Committee is open to all interested QueerNetwork members and offers the possibility to actively participate in the planning of the content as well as in the supervision of the QueerNetwork meetings, activities, projects, etc. If you are interested, please contact queer(at)charite.de.
There is also the possibility of getting involved in the Queer & Teaching WG or the Queer Research WG. If you are interested, the organisers will send you the upcoming dates.
If you need advice on the topic of gender diversity, there is the QueerNetwork at the Charité as well as the Representative for Gender Diversity.
The QueerNetwork is united and colourful – and is happy to receive active support for their volunteer work!
