Training and Career Qualifications

Workshops and training sessions help you improve your professional skills, such as presentation style, application writing, or leadership abilities. Participation fees for workshops focused on these areas, as well as soft skills courses and management training, can be covered by the DFG’s Standard Allowance for Equal Opportunity Measures.

Career measures funded by the DFG’s Standard Allowance aim to address the underrepresentation of female researchers in academia, particularly at higher career levels, and to promote diversity in science and the humanities. Therefore, female researchers, as well as those identifying as first generation academics, researchers with disabilities or long-term illnesses, refugee researchers, international researchers adapting to the German research system, or researchers with experiences of discrimination – on grounds of age, ethnic origin, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or social background – are eligible to benefit from career measures that extend beyond the regular qualification programmes offered at universities and within research alliances.

Eligible career measures may include the following:

  • Mentoring, networking opportunities with role models, and coaching sessions
  • Soft skills workshops aimed at expanding career prospects, such as training in rethoric, communication, time management and negotiation
  • Research-specific intercultural training
  • Research-focused presentation and language courses, particularly if these are not otherwise available at the institution (e.g., academic writing, leading research teams, teaching and committee work, academic self-administration).
