The diversity of the student body is part of the reality of everyday life in academia. Students bring different life circumstances to courses and have varied perspectives on the content and condition of their studies. This also has to do with experiences of discrimination and the realities of how privilege works in societal structures of inequality. Gender- and diversity-aware teaching takes the diversity of students into consideration and follows the approach of anti-discrimination. This contributes to a good learning environment for everyone.
In this workshop, you’ll examine various dimensions of gender- and diversity-aware teaching, such as methods, communication, teaching content, and basic conditions. Many aspects of in-person teaching can also be transferred to digital teaching, but there are also some issues specific to online teaching, such as the pros and cons of synchronous and asynchronous instruction. Thus both the technical and didactic aspects of gender and diversity in (digital) teaching will be discussed in this short workshop.
