The increasing visibility of young people with their questions, needs and challenges has brought the topics of transgender, intersex and non-binary gender identities – hereafter referred to as TIN – into the social spotlight. However, these topics are still largely absent in teacher training, and the pedagogical foundations are only being gradually developed, meaning that professionals are often unsure how they can encourage and support young people in their gender self-determination.
This symposium opens up practical possibilities for action for professionals from various pedagogical contexts. The theoretical foundations of the topics of transgender, intersex and non-binary identities will be presented and possibilities for pedagogical implementation will be discussed. The discussions from the symposium will in turn be used to strengthen the curricula of the various pedagogical professions.
