Young researchers in their first leadership positions face multiple challenges: Besides excelling in research and teaching they are also expected to develop management skills and lead people in teams and/or projects with a successful outcome. The workshop covers essential questions with regard to leadership in science: e.g. which (specific) requirements define leadership in research institutions, especially in the current trend of internationalisation of research? What is my individual understanding of leadership? The workshop provides room for participants to reflect on their experience and questions, introduces tools for the selection of new team members as well as their instruction and development. Leadership approaches in sandwich positions and/or in lateral contexts will also be presented. The workshop also focuses on a key element of leadership: communication and conflict management.
