Leaving Academia: Problem or Good Idea?
Date and time
Monday-Friday, 8-12 February 2021, 6 p.m.
Careers in German academia are difficult to plan and marked by precarious employment conditions and uncertain prospects for the future. In accordance with these conditions, the number of people who (have to) turn their backs on academia and leave the field longterm is high. Until now, we’ve lacked fundamental empirical and theoretical insights for conceptualising this phenomeon, with respect to the character of the process, subjective decisions, and the strategies and practices in research organisations.
In this online lecture series, which serves as a closing event for the interdisciplinary network “Ausstieg aus der Wissenschaft” (Leaving Academia), individual and structural conditions surrounding the topic will be treated on both the theoretical and empirical level.
Five lectures will take place over the course of five days. Please see the event website for further information on the series and the individual lectures.
