Further information
Are you a woman* (cis or trans), queer or gender non-binary person in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) and passionate about your science? Have you been waiting for that perfect opportunity to talk to people about your work? Do you want to receive training in science communication? Then Soapbox Science Berlin is waiting for you. Apply now to be one of 12 speakers.
Soapbox Science is a novel public outreach platform and our events transform public areas into an arena for public learning and scientific debate. Further, the group explicitly engages women* in order to promote their visibility in science.
The event consists of brief open talks from 12 speakers about their research, and some time for questions and interaction with the audience. The organisers are very hopeful that despite the pandemic, circumstances will allow for the event to happen in public but keep in mind that this might be subject to change. Any changes to the event will be communicated.
*Including cis or trans women, queer and gender non-binary persons and underrepresented groups including, but not limited to, black, indigenous and people of colour and people with disabilities. Don’t hesitate to contact the organisers with any questions you may have, including but not limited to: accessibility needs or concerns about acts of discrimination while in the spotlight. We will work together to make sure that you can present your work comfortably and safely.
**Considering that we receive a lot of applications, we select the speakers with an effort towards creating as diverse an event as possible. In addition to the diversity of topics, career stages and languages of the speakers, we place focus on giving space to minorities who are not usually represented in public scientific platforms.
