The goal of this symposium is to discuss the challenges to gender equality politics that grew out of the 2018 reform of the Personenstandsgesetz (civil status law). What does the introduction of the third option for legal gender (“divers” in German) mean, when gender equality is specifically defined as equality between men and women? How can gender equality support gender diversity and self-determination? Do we have the chance to develop an intersectional understanding of gender equality?

The symposium will take place as a hybrid event at FernUniversität in Hagen. Lectures will be shown online as a video livestream. Following the lectures, there will be a live chat via Adobe Connect, in which participants have the chance to converse with the speakers.
