Blog: ParenThesis
ParenThesis is a blog in which a group of scientists from the field of psychology individually answer frequently asked questions about compatibility with their own personal experiences. The team wants to use their own experiences and individual career paths to show that an academic career can be compatible with a family and what challenges arise on a daily basis. How can you organise a working day with a child? What does (in)efficient working with children in the home office look like? How can you organise a conference visit with children? When is the best time to have a child if you work in science? The experience reports are as varied as the people who wrote them.
ParenThesis pursues three goals:
- The blog answers specific questions about the compatibility of an academic career and family life.
- It collects and documents different and individual approaches and possible solutions and shows that generalised ‘one fits all’ solutions are often not effective when it comes to compatibility issues and.
- The blog makes the problem of reconciling an academic career and family responsibilities even more visible for decision-makers.
The development of the blog was funded by Universität Hamburg’s Equal Opportunities Fund.
