With “AdvanceAcademia! Strengthening Academic Careers”, the Berlin University Alliance is offering the first diversity-sensitive programme to promote structured collaboration in tandem between doctoral students and supervisors. It is open to all research fields and disciplines.

The programme runs for six months, is free of charge and includes a selection of modules that can be chosen individually. From April 2024, up to 30 places will be allocated per month to supervisors of doctoral projects and their doctoral students. The supervisors of the doctoral theses usually take part together with their doctoral students. However, doctoral candidates who wish to participate can also be accepted into the programme without their supervisor. Doctoral candidates and their supervisors from any institutions across Germany can register.

The focus is on promoting

  • the regular work of doctoral students on their doctoral project
  • the implementation of an effective and lively evaluation and feedback culture
  • the independent, regular, and close-meshed reflection of the progress of the doctorate
  • a gender- and diversity-sensitive attitude in research, teaching and health care
