This event is a conference and academic networking meeting for researchers of diversity from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. This year’s theme is social sustainability. The conference will address the questions of whether and how the sustainability goals of the UN’s Agenda 2030 can be connected with diversity and inclusion.

For the purposes of the conference, sustainable development will be treated as a development that fulfils present needs without risking future generations’ ability to fulfil their needs. This raises the question of which intersections, tensions, or even contradictions exist between social sustainability goals and diversity and inclusion. Is it possible to transfer the relatively abstract-normative concepts of diversity and inclusion and social development into actionable, binding social development goals? Which risks would result from a failure to find intersections between diversity and inclusion and social sustainability? And on the other hand, which risks would result from bringing the two concepts together?
