Mothers and other unpaid care workers have been hit hardest by the pandemic. Even after three years and the official “end”, exhaustion and overload have not died down. The additional care work that resulted due to most Kitas and schools closing during the pandemic, and due to continuous staff shortages with educators, preschool, nursery and school teachers, the career of many mothers has been put on the back burner. This has also been the case for science and research. There is reason to fear that a whole generation of female researchers as well as their knowledge could go to waste, if there are no active measures in place to manage the effects of the Corona Gap.
