Further information
Leadership skills are vital for postdocs who are or will be in charge of leading research groups and projects in the future. Understanding what makes leadership effective helps them, for example, to manage diverse teams, foster motivation, and deal with conflicts. Learning about leadership can help postdocs manage their current work situations more effectively and contribute to their professional growth and advancement in academia.
The goal of this course is to familiarise postdoctoral researchers with the concept and tools of leadership. What works and what does not can be studied scientifically. Thus, the ideas and recommendations provided in this course are based on research.
Participants will learn, for example, why leadership is important, what distinguishes successful from unsuccessful leaders, how they can motivate others and also themselves, and which leadership behaviour is most effective under which circumstances. The instructor will present scientific theories and findings and prepare you with concrete examples and practical exercises for taking on leadership responsibilities in academia.
