Report on Personnel at German Academic Institutions

The German Federal Statistical Office (Statistisches Bundesamt) has released a report on the numbers surrounding employment at German institutions of higher education. The report shows an overall increase of 1.3% for academic employees in the year 2018.

Especially interesting are the statistics regarding the employment of women. The percentage of female academic staff at German institutions of higher education was 39%, which is roughly the same as it was the previous year. The percentage of women holding professorships was 25%. When it comes to non-academic positions at universities (in areas like administration, libraries, and technical services), women held 70% of positions. There is clearly still a lot of work to be done!
