This workshop investigates with its participants, why there are many reservations against “coming out” as a mother in research and science. Causes can be manifold: It may be that others won’t perceive one as a fully active researcher anymore, or that one’s capability is being questioned. Or it could be in order to avoid commingling children (and maybe even parenting) with professional contexts. It may even be that one sees oneself as part of (queer-)feminist environment and feels like motherhood could be being perceived as “unfeminist” or staid. Additionally even the word “mother” – especially in the German-speaking area – can connote a conservative and normative discourse, and sometimes even far-right ideology.
This online-circle invites you to talk about all of those aspects!
