Internationalisation and equality are cross-cutting issues in strategic human resources development at German universities and non-university research institutions: International competitiveness, exchange and cooperation with relevant research institutions beyond national borders, the global recruitment of “high potentials” and the promotion of diversity within their own institutions are important goals. But how can gender equality be adequately addressed in the context of internationalisation strategies? How can high-potential international female scientists be attracted to Germany and promoted? Which active recruitment procedures promise success for women as well? Where can gender equality actors be successful, and what obstacles do they face?

This Barcamp will examine the measures developed everywhere for internationalisation at German research institutions with regard to their opportunities and risks in terms of gender equality. This includes: An open discussion on the application of concepts like internationalisation, recruitment and headhunting in science, reflection about measures at different career stages, and the differentiation of strategies according to employee groups and specific academic cultures. Finally, the massive impact of the Corona pandemic on internationalisation strategies and gender equality will also be considered.
