In March 2020, the European Commission introduced their strategy for gender equality for 2020 to 2025. Among the goals defined there are the end of gender-based violence, fighting gender stereotypes, and tackling pay and pension gaps. The strategy takes up a two-part approach: gender mainstreaming and an intersectional perspective in all the important initiatives in EU politics.

The German Presidency of the Council of the EU also placed emphasis on gender equality and aims to address issues such as the following: visibility, equal opportunities in financial support plans, role models, participation in decision-making processes, good examples for the empowerment of women, equal pay, and ending violence against women.

In this online event, questions such as the following will be discussed with guests:

  • What has already been implemented or set into motion by the EU Commission and the German Presidency of the Council of the EU with regard to gender equality?
  • What is inadequate or missing from the gender equality strategy of the EU Commission?
  • Is there already an intersectional perspective present in all gender equality policies (as announced)?
  • Is the EU Commission seriously pursuing the goal of a human rights based and radical establishment of economic, political, and social equality for everyone?
  • What does the EU Commission and the new Presidency of the Council have to implement?
